It was great to see the improvements Zoo Peru had made to the Quistococha Zoo. And it was also good to see what still needed improving. Finally I got to see a Pink Amazon River up close. I even got to feed her. The water was very turbid so difficult to see, but I was able to see her tiny narrow rostrum and small needle pointed teeth. So different from the bottlenose. She was much smaller in length than I expected (or I guess used to) and so flexible in the neck. Much more flexible than the bottlenose. What a great experience though to see one so close. Again today we saw all the types of cats and other amazonian creatures. All so different from the wildlife back home. We befriended some of the local kids and they became our personal tour guides taking photos for us and telling us about all the different animals. They were good fun to have around. The day was extremely hot and a swim in the lake with the anacondas not so far away was definitely required. Lunch... well lets say I tried my first cooked grub! Tasted like salty chicken fat.
