Day 5 and it´s been quite eventful so far. 3 days travelling with a lazy
afternoon of shopping and dining in Buenos Aires and 2 days of walking. The two walks were to
acclimatise to the altitude. Chloe and Lissy have been suffering from
altitude sickness and Nat and I were a little careless with water and
have had crook bellies. At least we´re getting all this out of the way
early!

We met our guide Zac on our arrival in Huaraz, the mountain town we have
used as a base for the last couple of days. He seems like he is going to
be a great guide and we´ve all warmed to him. Even if language is a
barrier on both sides - we are managing to stumble through.

We leave for the Huayhuash trail tomorrow so it´s up bright and early.
Today we visited the Lazy Dog Inn - an eco tourism
destination that does a lot of work in helping the local community in a
sustainable way, www.thelazydoginn.com. Diana was a very generous host providing us a guide for a walk, lunch and a sauna! So it was all action stations when we returned to
buy some last minute supplies ahead of our 12 day trek.

I think we´re all still a bit apprehensive about how the trek will go - at
least for the first few days, given the stomach bugs and altitude
sickness. But everyone is meeting it with determination and a sense of
adventure. Stay tuned, we´ll return to the blogs after the trek.
