2007 Winner - Marayka Kirby
Admittedly the first thing that caught my eye was the word ‘adventurer’.
For as long as I could remember I have always wanted to go to destinations with unique flora and fauna in remote locations. However, the more I read into the whole experience, the more I realised what an exciting and rewarding opportunity was being offered.
The idea of hiking through the Andes, travelling through the Amazon and having the opportunity to help in the Animal Rescue Centre alongside people whom share a similar passion sounded like a great way to make friendships, develop as a person, help a rewarding organisation and have a lot of fun.

I’m confident I would be a great friend to all the girls on the trip and contribute a great deal of enthusiasm, a sense of adventure and determination to succeed and a bit of humour. I’m not at all a ‘girly’ girl and have never been afraid of getting dirty or ‘roughing it’, as my Dad would call our many family camping adventures. I hope that my skills from working within a team and close family values will also contribute to the group. Perhaps my animal handling and caring skills will hopefully be of some assistance in the animal rescue centre as well.

Apart from seeing and learning about one of the most amazing and peaceful places on the planet, I also hope to gain new found friendships, a sense of achievement and become an inspiration to other girls. I also wish to gain new skills, learn about new cultures and meet lots of interesting people.
