WANTED: Doctors, dentists, students in health and non-medical volunteers to join an extraordinary expediton to provide clinic to indigenous villages in the remote Amazon. We're searching Australia for 12 people to join us and discover how making a difference to others is the surest way to making a difference in your own life.

Amazon 2010 - medical outreach expediton  Girls on Top are seeking an all-Australian volunteer team to head into the Peruvian Amazon in October 2010 for 2 - 4 weeks on a medical expedition to isolated villages in the Pacaya Samiria Reserve in the Amazon Basin.

The journey - travel by plane, bus, boat and dugout to serve village communities medical, dental and general health while experiencing for yourself the wonders of the Amazon and a way of life that holds many rewards for the few Westerners who have set foot (or muddy gumboot) in the region.

The expedition will be co-ordinated by the Peru-based, USA-backed medical charity, Amazon Promise which specialises in liaising with village elders, international leaders in medical care and providing logisitics for medical expeditions every year in this most remote and magical wilderness.

The conditions will range from truly rustic jungle accommodations to the finest old-world 'glamour' of the Amazon's famous rubber-boom city, Iquitos, in which we will be based.

The opportunity includes the chance to re-kindle your original passion for health care, set foot in wilderness where few explorers travel, and share in discussion with leading medical and shamanic healers around the theme where Science meets Nature.

Trip Dates: 0ctober 16 - November 1, 2010 (with option to extend to visit Cusco & Machu Picchu or shorten for your timeframes).

Trip Costs: $3,000 [plus flights]      *costs include all medical provisions and logistics, accommodation, transport, food on expedition and seminars featuring Australian, Peruvian and Shaman speakers discussing Where Science Meets Nature

Girls on Top is a unique charitable leadership project which has provided life-changing opportunities for ordinary women with extra-ordinary goals since 2004. In 2009 we have taken a break from our high altitude mountaineering expeditions to check in our goals, and explore what we have learnt along the way.It is the clear decision of the team that in 2010 we would like to use our resources and networks to support medical professionals and those who would support them in an expedition to take their skills directly to the people of the Amazon, who we have seen return those who join us with gifts of their own. Volunteers on our team will be able to use their skills and experience to make an immediate and profoud difference to people who give back a profound insight to the simplicty, dignity, gratitude and joy at the heart of the human experience.   If that sounds refreshing - please join us.

What our team members say about the journey

We intend for our journeys to inspire, encourage and motivate people everywhere to climb their personal mountains with courage, compassion and love for this journey called life .. happy trails. xx

Since our first climb of Kilimanjaro in support of a tiny Zimbabwe orphange in 2004, five teams of inspiring women have joined our high altitude fund raising adventures to learn more about themselves as they make a difference to others.

Girls on Top have traveled from the Andes to the Amazon, summited the roof of Africa and climbed the remote flanks of the Tibetan ranges. Our teams have hosted events ranging from yoga weekends and fashion parades, to film nights and art exhibitions as they explore ways to use their passions on behalf of our charity partners. Our journeys have enabled us to raise almost $100,000 for grassroots projects lead by women with a vision to support and enrich life in these regions.
